The SM Detective

BBHD came out in 1973. I can't remember the year, but I was fortunate enough to have been able to see it on the big screen. I remember the city but, for the life of me, I can't remember which theater it was. I do recall that after it had its normal run in the theaters, it hit the drive-in circuit. Do those still exist?

I can't help but chuckle now in retrospect thinking of that nasty whipping scene up there on the huge outdoor screen for all the neighbors to see. They wouldn't have been able to hear what was going on. You had to hang this horrible, tinny speaker from your window. Later I believe you could tune in the audio from your car radio.

My friend sent me the official DVD of this film from Hong Kong a few years ago but it's been awhile since I've watched it. Basically, it's about the Japanese army's presence in China during WWII. The Japanese have set up a prison camp and, surprise, surprise, the inmates are all sexy Chinese and Western women.

In the beginning, the Japanese barge into some place looking for a downed allied pilot. They start executing people when no one will tell them where he is. Then the pilot comes forward in order to stop the carnage. After they shoot him all hell breaks loose. Cue the music and the opening credits as the Japanese start grabbing all the chicks. The women put up quite a struggle and the film stops completely for a few seconds each time their legs fly up into the air revealing their undies and shapely legs.

After seeing this opening, my jaw was on the floor. I'd gone into the theater with fairly low expectations. But now it looked like I was in for the ride of my life.

It got better.

Cut to the prison camp. All the women are lined up outside in the hot sun wearing only their underwear and tattered tops. The camp commandant is lecturing them on Sino-Japanese relations and berating them because one of them had attempted to escape. Of course, this being a Shaw Brothers HK flick, all the Japanese are played by Chinese actors (as far as I know, anyway).

Finally, the girl who had attempted to escape is dragged out of the punishment box she was being kept in. They take her to a wooden structure where she is chained with her wrists over head.

I actually have two versions of this movie. One is the HK DVD I mentioned which is only in Chinese. The other I rented on VHS many years ago and it was in English with, I think, German subtitles. I will always remember the words of the cruel female warden who looks sternly at the helpless Chinese girl and yells: "Strip her!"



A guard dutifully rips off the prisoner's top and after the female warden has a little fun with the victim, another inmate is forced to whip the chained girl to death.

Unfortunately, this is pretty much the best part of the movie and it's still quite early. There is a scene where several of the girls are staked out in the baking sun but they aren't nude -- not even topless. This disappointed me, needless to say.

I went to HK Cinemagic and was amused to learn that a fellow by the name of Shakamura Yashiyusha is listed as the "action director."

This is a decidedly anti-Japanese movie and here's this Japanese guy listed in the credits. At least they say his nationality is Japanese. I don't believe I've ever seen this name before. Both the first and last names sound a little odd to me. He apparently also went by some Chinese names, one being Luk Chuen.

As I said in the beginning, we need some movie reviews here at SM Detective. I obviously suck as a reviewer. So I'll try to find someone qualified as soon as possible.

There's quite a bit of information on the net regarding this movie and it shouldn't be too hard to get if you're resourceful. I highly recommend it. Five erect cocks for this one.
