Everything's Negotiable -- Unless You Shoot Crap

legup

A few years ago I was contacted by an individual about importing some Western material into Japan. I would use the term major player but it sounds a bit pompous. Let's just say he was serious and had some serious money to put into this project. For 99 percent of the people out there scraping by making SM material, this was a once-in-a-lifetime deal.

One caveat: he did want a lot for his money. But you've heard the phrase, "Everything's negotiable"? I think everyone's heard this. Too bad, as I found out, many people don't have a clue what it means to negotiate.

FetiSM a Smashing Success

event
Now, while it's still fresh in my mind, here are my impressions of FetiSM, the event I brought to your attention in a previous post.

First, the event was organized by our own esteemed blogger, Kogure, and this was the first time she had organized such an event. She deliberately chose a smaller venue, Cozmo's Cafe in Shibuya, simply because she couldn't have had much of an idea as to how many people would actually show up.

She needn't have been concerned. The place was packed. To the gills. In terms of the number of people that attended, this debut event by Kogure-san was a smashing success.

Blood Ritual: Devil Worshipers vs. Naked Girl

moviechin

Yes, zombies devil worshipers, a naked girl and a sacrificial altar upon which she is eventually tied. What's not to love?

This is the second review in a row featuring a Hong Kong flick, interestingly enough. Most of my collection consists of Japanese sinema. But this one is just too good to ignore any longer.

I picked up the VHS tape of this film in Chinatown I don't know how many years ago. Everything was in Chinese on the cover, of course, so I don't even know the name of this one and I haven't been able to get any more info about it. (Update: The movie is called Blood Ritual. See comments).

Nice Bazookas -- Kogure Is in the House!

kogure blog

First off, please overlook my awkward English as I’m not a native English speaker nor have I ever lived outside Japan. But I think even my poor English may be useful for non-Japanese readers to have some idea about Japanese SM, than if I write only in Japanese. I will try to write like this using my small vocabulary to the fullest.

I’m glad to start contributing articles to SM Detective. Although I’m not an organized writer, I hope I can add some color to this blog to help out KabukiJoe.

I recognize a Londoner friend of mine, Esinem, has already attacked Japan's borders by posting his article here before mine. I need to intercept this octopus cannon with my small bazookas.

Last Call -- Festish Event in Shibuya

fetism

Don't miss this event this Saturday at Cozmo's Cafe in Shibuya. FetiSM, organized by Kogure of KogureGold and featuring Arisue Go of Hana to Hebi fame. Plus other performers and a DJ. Reasonably priced.

Information at the FetiSM website in Japanese and English. Map below.

London calling!

Well, it's turning out to be an interesting month so far. I've just had a call from the unbelievably trendy iD magazine who want me to do some rope work on a male model for their forthcoming issue.

This comes straight after the collaboration with Manuel Vason, the favoured photographer of the body performance crew, for .Cent, which explores the idea of "the spaces in between" using zentai and a matching background. As you'll see if you check out his site, Manuel is a stunning photographer and has shot such notables as Franko B, Lee Adams, Ron Athey and Ernst Fischer. This issue will also include work by Araki, so I will be in exalted company.

Bamboo House of Dolls: Best WIP Flick Ever

bamboo 1

What we need around here are some movie reviews.

I contacted a friend about this. I've yet to receive his reply. But he is very knowledgeable on the subject of Japanese and Chinese cinema, especially when it comes to these cheesy, exploitation flicks that had their heyday in the 70s.

So, in lieu of an actual, qualified critic, here's my take on Bamboo House of Dolls, a film I consider to be the greatest WIP (women in prison) flick of all time.

A Few Words About the Blog

ropehang

Now that we've been up and running for awhile, I thought I'd take this opportunity to talk about this blog, SM Detective, and what I hope to accomplish with it.

First and foremost, the blog should be entertaining. Secondly, I want it to be informative. To be specific, my hope is that SM Detective eventually becomes a go-to spot on the web for information about Japanese bondage/SM, as well as a place where we report on various events in Japan before and after they take place.

Ban the Pirates, Not Me

hashitits

A funny thing happened as I was perusing the interwebs yesterday. I was checking out a site called FetishMovies. FetishMovies takes all sorts of content from producers (including SM content) and streams it to its customers. The site is pretty easy to navigate and, overall, I think they've done a pretty good job with the design and interface. And the concept is a good one.

As far as I can tell, there are a few options for distributing one's content. You can go the old fashioned way and just press a bunch of DVDs. Making DVDs isn't hard but getting good distribution is a real challenge. And even if you get the distribution, the middleman wants a big cut.
